The WICUDA Canada 2022 Convention was successfully held over the weekend of September 3–4, 2022, bringing together members, families, and guests for a memorable gathering focused on governance, celebration, and cultural unity. Activities took place in the cities of Cambridge and Guelph.

General Assembly – September 3, 2022

Venue: Centre Communautaire Francophone de Cambridge

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Two members playing traditional drumsThe convention officially commenced with the General Assembly at 1:00 p.m. Members arrived in traditional attire, reflecting pride in our cultural heritage and unity as an association.

The meeting was called to order and proceeded with the adoption of the agenda. The opening ceremony included an opening prayer, followed by formal proceedings and a welcome address by the President, who expressed appreciation for the continued commitment and participation of members.

The business session included:

  • Review and adoption of the previous meeting’s minutes

  • Discussions on matters arising from the minutes

  • A detailed financial update presented by the Financial Secretary/Representative

  • Updates from coordinators and chapter leaders

  • Deliberations on other matters concerning the growth and sustainability of the association

  • Discussions regarding future hosting plans and organizational development

The General Assembly concluded at 5:00 p.m. after productive deliberations marked by transparency, collaboration, and forward-thinking decisions.

Gala Night – September 3, 2022

Time: 8:00 p.m.

The evening continued with a vibrant Gala Night beginning at 8:00 p.m. Members and guests gathered in an atmosphere of elegance and celebration. The gala featured music, entertainment, and dancing, providing a joyful platform for members to relax and connect after the formal proceedings of the day.

The event strengthened fellowship and reinforced the bonds that unite WICUDA members across chapters and regions.

BBQ & Cultural Activities – September 4, 2022

Venue: Silvercreek Park
142 Edinburgh Rd S, Guelph, ON

The convention concluded on Sunday, September 4, with an outdoor BBQ and cultural activities at Silvercreek Park in Guelph. The relaxed setting allowed members and their families to unwind while enjoying grilled delicacies, traditional dishes, music, and cultural expressions.

The day was filled with laughter, networking, and community spirit, offering a fitting close to a successful convention weekend.

The WICUDA Canada 2022 Convention was a resounding success, blending effective governance with cultural celebration and community fellowship. From the structured and impactful General Assembly in Cambridge to the lively Gala Night and the engaging BBQ and cultural activities in Guelph, the weekend exemplified unity, transparency, and pride in our shared heritage.
