WICA 2024 Convention Program Report
The WICA 2024 Convention from August 31 to September 1, 2024 was a vibrant and memorable gathering that brought together members and guests for a full day of leadership engagement, cultural celebration, and social connection.
Morning Session: Annual General Meeting
The day began with the Annual General Meeting from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., led by the National President. This important session provided an opportunity to review the association’s progress, discuss key matters, and outline the vision and strategic direction for the coming year.
Following the meeting, members gathered from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for photographs, coordinated by the Social Media and Website Team, capturing special moments and strengthening our shared memories.
Evening Celebration: Cultural Evening & Gala Night
The evening festivities commenced at 6:00 p.m. with the welcoming of guests by the Chapter Coordinator and ushers. The program featured a dynamic blend of cultural performances, entertainment, and fellowship.
Highlights of the Cultural Evening included:

Introduction of the MC and High Table

A heartwarming kids’ presentation

Live performances by Estino la Dynamique

Traditional Njuh, Nfuh, and Mbaya dances

Dinner service at 8:00 p.m.

The ceremonial cutting of the cake
The Gala Night, animated by Ringnyu and supported by the MC/DJ team, continued the celebration with music, dancing, and entertainment. Members enjoyed a lively atmosphere that carried on into the early hours with “Dance! Dance! Dance!” from midnight until 2:30 a.m.
Closing Activity: BBQ Gathering
The convention concluded on a refreshing note with a BBQ gathering at 10:00 a.m. on September 1st at Castle Downs Park, 11520 153 Ave NW, Edmonton, T5X 5G4. This relaxed outdoor event provided members and families with one final opportunity to connect, unwind, and celebrate the success of the convention.
