As part of the SBCCI funding received through Tropicana Community Services, WICA (Wimbum Canada) implemented a capacity-building initiative to strengthen its ability to manage and maintain its organizational website.
Prior to this initiative, WICA had received funding to redesign and modernize its website in order to improve communication with members, showcase community initiatives, and provide better access to information about the organization’s programs and activities. Following the completion of the website redesign, it became important for the organization to ensure that it had internal capacity to maintain and update the platform on an ongoing basis.
Purpose of the Training
To support the long-term sustainability of the newly redesigned website, WICA invested in training members who would be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for the platform.
Through this initiative, three members of the organization were selected to participate in a six-week training program in web development and website maintenance. The training was designed to equip participants with practical skills required to manage and support the website, including updating content, maintaining website functionality, and addressing basic technical issues.
This approach allows the organization to reduce reliance on external technical services while ensuring that the website remains current, secure, and responsive to the needs of members and the wider community.
Training Outcomes and Responsibilities
Upon completion of the training, the participants will be responsible for the ongoing technical support and maintenance of the WICA website. Their responsibilities include:
-
Updating website content, announcements, and program information
-
Maintaining the functionality and structure of the website
-
Monitoring performance and addressing technical issues when they arise
-
Supporting the integration of new features or improvements as the organization grows
In addition to managing the website, the trained members will also organize train-the-trainer sessions within the association. These sessions will allow them to share their knowledge with other members—particularly youth—and encourage greater involvement in maintaining and improving the organization’s digital platforms.
Strengthening Organizational Capacity
This training initiative plays an important role in strengthening the digital capacity of WICA (Wimbum Canada). By developing internal technical expertise, the organization ensures that its website remains a reliable tool for communication, community engagement, and the promotion of cultural and educational activities.
The initiative also supports the broader objectives of the SBCCI funding program by helping community organizations build the skills, knowledge, and infrastructure necessary for sustainable operations.
Through this investment in training and digital capacity, WICA is better positioned to manage its online presence effectively and continue serving its members and the broader community.
