WICA West–Edmonton Branch Holds First Meeting

The WICA (Wimbum Canada) West–Edmonton Branch successfully held its first official meeting on Saturday, October 4, 2025, marking an important milestone for the Wimbum community in the region. The gathering brought together members in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere filled with unity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to strengthening the community.

The meeting was characterized by lively discussions and a strong sense of purpose as participants explored ideas and plans for future activities that will help promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Wimbum people. Members expressed excitement about building a vibrant local branch that will serve as a platform for cultural exchange, community support, and youth engagement.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the collective decision to promote the use of the Limbum language during gatherings and community activities. Members emphasized that Limbum is more than just a means of communication—it is a central part of the identity and heritage of the Wimbum people. Speaking and preserving the language helps maintain a strong connection to ancestral roots and ensures that the culture continues to thrive across generations.

Participants also reflected on the broader importance of culture, which includes traditions, values, art, and shared experiences. However, many noted that language remains the heartbeat of cultural identity, carrying stories, wisdom, and history from one generation to the next. By encouraging the use and teaching of Limbum within the community, the branch aims to help younger generations stay connected to their heritage while living in Canada.

The leadership of the WICA (Wimbum Canada) West–Edmonton Branch expressed sincere appreciation to everyone who attended and contributed ideas during this inaugural meeting. Their participation and enthusiasm played a vital role in making the gathering a success.

With this strong start, the branch looks forward to organizing more activities and initiatives that will bring members together and strengthen the Wimbum community in Edmonton and beyond.
